I’m-Yunity Medicinal Mushroom Compound Extends Lifespan of Dogs with Invasive Cancer
I’m always coming across the latest product touted as a “miracle cure” for dogs. Sadly, many people purchase such products in desperation to help their beloved animal companions, but many – if not most – of these products end up doing nothing more than draining the person’s wallet. That’s why when I discover a product that is clinically tested and proven to benefit dogs, I get really excited and I want to pass that information along. I’m-Yunity® is one such product. I’m-Yunity is clinically proven to extend the lifespan of dogs with hemangiosarcoma, an aggressive, invasive cancer that originates in the blood vessels and spreads to other parts of the body, most commonly the spleen.

Before I continue discussing the benefits of I’m-Yunity, I want to make it clear that I have no (that means zero, zip) association with the product or the company that makes it, nor do I benefit financially from recommending it. The only benefit I receive comes from knowing that I am fulfilling my mission of helping extend the lives of dogs.
Dogs and Cancer
Statistics regarding cancer in dogs are sobering. About 1.2 million dogs are diagnosed with cancer each year. For breeds such as Golden Retrievers, more than 60% will develop this insidious disease at some point in their lives. And the older a dog gets, the greater the likelihood that he/she will develop one or more forms of cancer.[1] That’s why I get really excited when a natural, clinically proven treatment for dogs with cancer comes around, and I’m-Yunity is the best such over-the-counter, natural product that I have heard about so far.
What is I’m-Yunity?
I’m-Yunity is a standardized extract of polysaccharopeptide, or PSP, a medicinally active compound extracted from the Coriolis versicolor mushroom, also known as the Yunzhi, or Zhi, mushroom. It has the highest PSP of all mushroom supplements.[1] The knowledge that mushrooms contain medicinal properties is far from new. The ancient Romans called them “the foods of the gods,” while throughout Asia, various species of mushrooms have been used medicinally for thousands of years. Now, I’m-Yunity PSP complex has been clinically proven to improve the immune systems of dogs, slow the growth of cancerous tumors and even, in some cases, reduce their size. Additional benefits are that I’m-Yunity also increases the appetite and energy levels of dogs undergoing chemotherapy.[1]
The Research
Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine in Philadelphia –
Dorothy Cimino Brown, DVM, professor of surgery and Director of Penn Vet’s Clinical Investigation Center and Jennifer Reetz, DVM, an attending radiologist in the Department of Clinical Studies – demonstrated that dogs suffering from hemangiosarcoma who were treated with I’m-Yunity PSP complex achieved the longest survival times ever reported for dogs with this disease.
The study involved 15 companion dogs diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma of the spleen. After surgical removal of their spleens, each dog received a daily dose of I’m-Yunity. No other treatment was given. Participants received monthly evaluation at Penn Vet for the remainder of their lives.
“The results were astounding. The dogs’ median survival time was 199 days, compared to previous reports of 86 days,” Brown says. “Some of the dogs lived longer than a year.”
Hemangiosarcoma most commonly strikes Golden Retrievers and German Shepherds, however all breeds are susceptible. Chemotherapy treatment is available, but is costly, invasive and does not drastically increase survival time, according to Brown.
PSP compound could eventually provide an alternative or complement to standard treatments for hemangiosarcoma and other canine cancers, according to Brown. “If a daily supplement can enable owners to increase both the quantity and quality of time spent with their beloved pets, that’s a big deal,” she says.
New I’m-Yunity Clinical Study Opportunity Available
As of the date of this writing, PennVet researchers are offering a second clinical study opportunity for dogs diagnosed with splenic hemangiosarcoma. The new study will compare I’m-Yunity’s results to those of standard chemotherapy for dogs with this same type of cancer.
In the new study, owners can choose between I’m-Yunity treatment alone or traditional chemotherapy alone. Half of the dogs in the chemotherapy group will randomly be assigned to get I’m-Yunity along with their chemotherapy, and owners will not be told whether or not they’re receiving it. Dogs enrolled in this study will have 11 weekly visits, followed by monthly follow-up visits until the end of their life.
Eligibility:
- Diagnosis of hemangiosarcoma following splenectomy.
- At least 4 kg. Not currently undergoing treatment for cancer.
- No other significant health concerns that are an immediate threat to life.
- Ability to administer oral medication (pills) to your dog.

I’m-Yunity is not Just for Cancer
Since I’m-Yunity improves immune health, it can benefit most dogs, not just those with cancer. I called the company and they told me that dogs who do not suffer from cancer would require a lower dose. If you are interested, you can call them and they will be happy to recommend a dose for your dog.
My first order of I’m-Yunity for Chase is in the mail, and I can’t wait to begin giving it to him. Thankfully he is healthy, but at 15 1/2 years old, I want to give my boy every advantage I can to ensure he stays that way for a long, long time.
