These blueberry buckwheat dog treats are the perfect alternative to store-bought biscuits. Free from gluten, grains, dairy, and anything artificial! These have everything your dog needs and nothing they do not. Simple, pure, natural ingredients for the health, and love, of your best friend.
Far too many times, store-bought treats are packed full of grains, gluten and artificial ingredients that do nothing for our dogs’ (or cats’) health. In fact, they can cause digestive upset, skin sensitivities and other reactions in animals with food sensitivities. Not to mention that when we purchase treats in the pet store, we don’t have control over the quality or origin of the ingredients.
It’s tempting to pick up a bag of treats at the pet store as a gift for your canine companion, but taking the little bit of extra time to make homemade treats can actually save you money while also nourishing your dog with ingredients that can help improve his health. While making your own goodies can be a labor of love, it’s all worth it when you know your best buddy is getting nourishing ingredients and enjoying a tasty treat.
This blueberry buckwheat cookie recipe contains superfoods that do wonders for your dog’s health, including:
- Buckwheat flour: Although the word has the name “wheat” in it, buckwheat flour is actually grain-free and gluten-free, making it a great base for your dog’s homemade cookies. Buckwheat flour surprisingly comes from a berry and contains powerful antioxidants, fiber and magnesium.
- Blueberries: Blueberries aren’t only great for us humans, they are great for our four-legged pals as well! Blueberries are high in fiber, low in sugar, and make the perfect addition to this cookie recipe.
- Coconut oil: One of the most commonly talked about superfoods today, coconut oil makes a great addition to these homemade treats. Not only does the coconut oil add a nice flavor for your dog to enjoy, but the oil is great for skin health and a shinier coat!

- Using a dog bone shaped cookie cutter (or another shape of your choice), cut out cookie shapes and place on the lined baking sheet.
- Place in the oven and bake for 18-20 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned, and the cookies have hardened in the center.
